Why 'Ultrasound therapy' is recommended for Tennis elbow, RSI, carpel tunnel, sports injuries and more...

Ultrasound therapy has been around for about fifty years,  it has been used for imagining and well as therapeutic ultrasound for sports injuries RSI and other trauma type issues.

Ultrasound works by sending a sound pulse beyond the range of human hearing from an applicator head into soft tissue, muscle, joint and ligaments.
Sound waves  pass through the skin cause a vibration locally, this vibration or cavitation which can cause a deep heating however no sensation of heat will normally be felt. The muscle or tissue will generally feel less painful, muscle tissue feels softer and relaxed.

Ultrasound has been shown to cause increased tissue relaxation, increased local blood flow, and scar tissue breakdown. The increase in local blood flow can be used to help reduce local swelling, chronic inflammation, some studies it to promote bone fracture healing rates.

In clinic I have used ultrasound for sprain type injuries, twisted ankle, sprained wrist, muscle strains etc where for the first week or so the injury is too painful for manual therapy so gentle ultrasound and acupuncture work really well together alleviate pain, inflammation, discomfort and improved healing times - especially useful for team sports like rugby, football etc

Ultrasound for 'RSI' or repetitive strain injury can be sports related or even an overloading workplace injury. This type of inflammatory injury responds well to gentle ultrasound which has a deep effect on tendons and ligaments allowing a more normal range of joint motion and function.

Ultrasound for carpel tunnel, Tennis elbow, Golfers elbo, frozen shoulder

This type of RSI type injury responds very well to ultrasound by the reduction of local inflammation and pain, it can also be used in conjunction with acupuncture and has been shown to work as a long term solution.

Sports massage and ultrasound

Ultrasound, sports massage, gentle manipulation and acupuncture do work very well together and will assist with speeding up the recovery and rehabilitation of an injury.

Training for the London Marathon and want to be injury free?

By now you are probably running lots of miles per week building up your cardio fitness to peak performance ready for the marathon.

Marathon training and a few points to consider

  • The more miles you run the greater the risk of short term and long term injury!
  • Is the type of training you are doing really helping you get stronger and prepared?
  • Are you getting good nutrition to fuel your training and recovery?
  • Have you a good stretching program in place?
  • Are you ignoring those niggles, aches and pains?
  • Feet ok?  Black nails, blisters foot and heal pain?
If 'no' to any of these then you could be missing a big part of the jigsaw
  • The right training is the key to running a marathon, just banging out the miles won't do it and you risk overuse injuries which can set you back weeks in recovery. Interval and core training will unlock the door to endurance sports.
  • A good diet, rich nutrients is the best fuel to maintain a training program.
  • Stretch those tight muscles or they will learn to stay tight, a tight muscle will create a tight joint and stiffness.
  • Get professional help for those niggles early with a sports massage, it could be more costly to fix if you leave it hoping the aches will just go away
  • Look after your feet or they will let you down, get good running shoes and have gait analysis to assess your foot health, a foot out of neutral requires more muscle strength to restrain it an so will lead to early muscle fatigue, stress fractures etc

I can help you in Oxford and Bicester with Sports, deep tissue massage and acupuncture, marathon training and nutrition plan, Postural assessment, gait analysis and custom Orthotics.

Acupuncture
Chinese Acupuncture has been around for over two thousand years and has been used to manage and treat injuries from muscle strains to Arthritis, pain relief, migraines and more......

I find acupuncture one of the best tools I use in the treatment of sports injuries.

Ankle pain, frozen shoulder, knee pain and more...

Acupuncture is particularly good for management ligament injuries like sprained ankles, torn or ruptures because this type of connective tissue has no direct blood supply and responds well to acupuncture by increasing blood supply and nutrients bathing the area in everything the body needs to heal well quicker.

Acupunture for Headaches and migraines

Chinese style acupuncture work on the meridians lines, there are various points specified on the body which will help with chronic headaches and migraines which are often associated with stress.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture should not hurt if done correctly however you should feel some sensation and this is just blocked energy or 'Chi' moving.

Is Acupuncture safe?

All needles in my clinic are sterilized and single use only, there are a few situations in which acupuncture in not appropriate: if you have a pacemaker etc. In clinic a full assessment will be carried out to be sure its OK for you.
